Living Benefits
Life Insurance That Protects You While You're Still Living.
Modern life insurance policies can do far more than pay a death benefit. Living benefits riders let you access your policy's value when you need it most — during a serious illness, not after.
What Are Living Benefits?
Living benefits — also called accelerated death benefit riders — allow you to access a portion of your life insurance death benefit while you're still alive if you're diagnosed with a qualifying condition. This can include terminal illness, chronic illness, or critical illness such as cancer, heart attack, or stroke.
The money is yours to use however you need: medical bills, experimental treatments, home modifications, lost income, or simply maintaining your quality of life. Many of these riders are included at no additional cost on qualifying policies.
The Three Riders
The Three Core Living Benefit Riders
Terminal Illness Rider
If you're diagnosed with a terminal illness and given 12–24 months to live, you can access up to 100% of your death benefit early — to spend your remaining time on your terms, not worrying about bills.
Chronic Illness Rider
If you're unable to perform two or more activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, eating, etc.) due to a chronic condition, you can access your benefit to cover long-term care costs without a separate LTC policy.
Critical Illness Rider
A diagnosis of cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, or other specified conditions triggers a lump-sum payment — giving you immediate financial relief when a health crisis strikes.
